Jen Maddison is the Health, Safety & Culture Lead at Port Skills and Safety (PSS), the UK’s professional membership organisation dedicated to raising health and safety standards across the ports industry. She leads on sector-wide strategy, working collaboratively with ports, regulators, and industry partners to drive continuous improvement in safety performance, with a particular focus on how culture, leadership, and behaviours influence real-world outcomes.

She regularly engages with industry through working groups, events, and thought leadership, and is committed to making safety both practical and meaningful for the port workforce. Her work increasingly centres on understanding the underlying causes of incidents, moving beyond compliance to explore how human factors, decision-making, and organisational culture shape safety performance. She is particularly interested in how data and innovation can be used to identify patterns in behaviour and support a more proactive, prevention-focused approach to safety.
